Honeybee Health: Healthy Fried Chicken

Last night I made my hubby's favorite healthy fried chicken. Its super easy to make and all you need are a few ingredients...

I use free range chicken, bread crumbs (even better if you can find organic whole wheat bread crumbs), egg whites, olive oil and two sprigs of rosemary (ALL ORGANIC). First butterfly your chicken breast so it cooks much faster. Heat two tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet. Dip the chicken breast in the egg whites, remove and then dredge the chicken in a plate of bread crumbs(front and back). Saute the chicken breast in your skillet (till lightly brown) topping with rosemary and adding salt and pepper to taste.

I threw together a mixed green salad with beets, easy goat cheese and a handful of walnuts.

It literally cooks in 15 minutes and if i'm in a rush (like last night) Ill heat up a bag of mushroom risotto from Traders freezer section. Im obsessed with this stuff! Its so good!!!

32 Week Update

Alright ladies these weeks are just going by a little to quickly now! If you follow the Honeybee on FB or Instagram you've probably already seen this pic I posted the other day but wanted to do a full update...

At our last appointment this little lady was already over 4 lbs (and that was two weeks ago), head down and in launch position! Hoping she stays that way until after 37 weeks (which is apparently considered full term if your having a girl. My doctor said 38 weeks is a good window if your having a boy) Either way we want her to bake as long as she needs to plump her little self up! Although at my 30 week ultrasound she already had a rather large tummy and little double chin! haha love that!

How far along: 32 Weeks

Gender: Girl

Total weight gain: 20 pounds gained!

Maternity clothes: Still just one pair of maternity jeans and one pair of maternity leggings. Im determined not to purchase any more. I still wear my normal jeans just unbuttoned/unzipped with my belly band over them. Although Im leaning more towards the leggings daily because the pants are feeling a bit snug. Also SERIOUSLY need to buy a nursing bra, top and pads. Any recommendations are welcome if you ladies have favorites!!

Stretch marks: not yet! (still knocking on wood)

Sleep: Up at least twice a night for bladder calls but luckily still pretty good. I've also adopted three pillows now to make this tummy a little more comfortable ;)

Miss Anything: Yes medicine! I have come down with another cold! I guess these little babies really do take a lot out of you. I'm hoping this is just a small cold and doesn't progress into one like I had a couple months ago. Im also missing out on lots of girls nights and girls trips with my non prego friends. This new life style is sinking in but I have to say while I miss these fun outings with the girls Im pretty darn lucky and excited about this new life to come!!!!!!!

Movement: Lots of movements! Her kicks literally stop me in my tracks now. Also she is having a lot more hiccups in my third trimester! Did this happen to any of you as well?

Cravings: Lots of carbs lately! Cereal has always been my favorite food but i've been an animal around it!

Symptoms: As previously mentioned my eye lashes are still pretty sparse. I also have some lovely little dark spots showing up on my face (Its called the mask of pregnancy apparently) but can be covered up with makeup and usually disappear after the baby arrives.

Belly Button in or out: Out

Mood: Pretty good besides having this cold. I did have one day last week where I was in such a bad mood I just hid out in my room because I didn't want to snap at my hubby.... Love these horomones!

Looking forward to: My next doctors appointment and starting our parenting classes this week (should be entertaining to say the least ;)

Exercise: Just walking a few days a week now.

Nutrition: Pretty much the same just upping my calories a bit in this last trimester. At my last doctors appointment I hadn't gained any weight (when I should have gained two lbs) She said the baby is measuring perfect but she is just taking everything I am eating and I should up my calories a little bit esp in the third trimester. Needless to say after the hubby heard that, we went straight to Whole Foods cookie section and dominated!

Favorite moments this week: My husband giggling at me when he catches me changing or getting up in the middle of the night to "waddle" to the bathroom. I told him i'm going to get a complex if keeps laughing everytime he see's my bare belly! I have been so lucky to have a husband who is so excited (if not more excited than I am) to have a little baby girl! The way his face lights up when he sees me has truly made this whole experience for me and I know just how fortunate I am to have him! Now just remind me of this when DELIVERY day comes and i'm cursing him out ;)

Honeybee Health: Andee's Eats

Here are some random shots from this week. I am going to start a new board on Pinterest titled "Andee's Eats" so it will be easy for you girls to save these shots if you want some healthy meal ideas...

Left over Skinny Grilled Chicken (with asparagus, brown rice and tomatoes from Cheesecake Factorys Skinnylicioius menu) and a side of hummus.

I always keep my fresh fruit washed and cut up in a big bowl for easy access. If its in the container it will sit their untouched by my husband ;) So I have to have it readily accessible for him to toss it in his yogurt, on top of waffles, in a smoothie or just by itself.

Yogurtland with Reese's cup topping was a MUST!

For a healthy dinner I made pork tenderloin (which is really lean) with a sweet potato and mixed greens.

Snagged a healthy fresh juice while out running errands....carrot, celery, ginger, lemon and one apple.

For lunch I had two poached eggs on toast and a salad topped with herbed cottage cheese.

It was so much fun and we scored lots of great gifts for baby A! 30 Week Update

How far along: 30 Weeks (almost 31 weeks currently)

Gender: Girl

Total weight gain: 17 pounds gained

Maternity clothes: I officially had to make some maternity purchases this month! I scooped up some Gap maternity leggings and they are beyond comfy!! Liz Lange for Target also makes some great fitting tanks (they kind of hide your belly button if your rocking an "outtie" like me) and I also bought one pair of Hudson wide leg maternity jeans from ebay. Im hoping to make do with these items for the next 8 weeks!

Stretch marks: not yet! (still knocking on wood)

Sleep: Sleeping is getting a bit more uncomfortable. Turning over is quite the task and baby "A" is very particular about which side she prefers me to sleep on (my diva in the making haha)

Miss Anything: Went to Katsuya (sushi) last night with some girlfriends and REALLY made me miss sashimi and cocktails! Although the bar tender made my favorite drink without the alcohol and cant tell you how excited I was!

Movement: Girlfriend is ALL OVER THE PLACE esp in the evenings. As many times as I have felt her movements it still puts a smile on my face. It is just such a trip that I could have a daughter in 8 weeks!!

Cravings: Still not to many. I think I have jinxed myself by saying I don't crave sweets because the last couple weeks i've started having a bit of a sweet tooth.

Symptoms: As previously mentioned my eye lashes are practically gone! Most days I dont even bother putting on mascara because 3 coats dont even make a difference. (I have to sport some falsies for special occasions) I also am SUPER tired now. I didn't really experience that to much in my first and second trimester but as soon I hit 7 months a nap in the afternoon became mandatory!

Belly Button in or out: Out

Mood: For the most part pretty HAPPY! I was a bit anxious the past couple weeks with settling back in and trying to get stuff organized. Now that we have some huge things checked off the to do list and I found a doctor here I like (which was major) i'm feeling much better. Nothing like moving mid pregnancy! Still hoping this little lady doesnt come early because there are so many things to do still! Also throughout my pregnancy I haven't been very emotional. I hear a lot of women are but i've been just been very irritable...my husband will agree ;)

Looking forward to: My third trimester ultra sound today and baby shower this weekend!!!! We're doing it a couple months early so my mom won't have to fly across country back to back.

Exercise: Many of you have asked about my exercise and nutrition plan during pregnancy. As for exercise, the first 6.5 months I was jogging a couple times a week for about 40 minutes and doing some strength training twice a week (reduced form my pre pregnancy working out 4 days a week). At around 6.5 months I got a really bad cough/cold and couldn't workout for a couple weeks. Once I started feeling better I did some light jogging again (around 7 months). The next morning I woke up coughing like crazy, so that was the end of that! I definitely don't want to do anything to chance getting sick again or to send myself into early labor. Now that i'm on track for the pregnancy weight gain range I want to be in (25-30 lbs) i'm just doing some granny/pregnant style walking a few days a week and taking it pretty easy.

Nutrition: I've touched on this before but I haven't been in the "feeding for two mentality". I've kept my eating pretty much the same during the first and second trimester. I just added a couple hundred extra calories. Now that i'm in my third trimester I have definitely been adding 300+ calories a day. It seems to be working for me as i'm gaining about a pound a week. My husband however would prefer me to eat cupcakes and ice cream every night. He comes to all my doctor visits and likes to inform her that he thinks i'm not gaining enough weight...to which my doctor tells him my stomach and weight is measuring right on track ;)

Christmas in Cayman

Hi loves! I'm attempting to do this post via my iPhone so bare with me if it's unorganized. We are finally back in CA and can't tell you how great it feels to be home! We spent the holidays in the Cayman Islands and always loooove going there. Luckily my in laws live there so we frequent there often. It's always so relaxing and the water and beaches are unlike any I've seen! We dominated the beach and loved getting to spend so much time with my littlest nephew!!

I also sported the two piece with my 7 month prego tummy! Quite a different experience but loved it!

Pregnancy Travel Style

If you follow the Honeybee on FB or Instagram you probably know the hubs and I spent the holidays in Cayman with family. Here's what I wore for the short flight...

27 weeks pregnant wearing DVF top, Hudson jeans and my Alexander McQueen bag that I never travel without! Its huge and I can stuff practically everything but the kitchen sink in it! PS its bizarre how I can wear a flowy top and barely look pregnant and then wear something fitted and BAM major tummy!

Were also in the middle of moving back to Orange County! Less than a week left to pack up the Miami casa and there is soooo much to do still! It Chaos here but hope to do a Cayman post soon though! xo

27 weeks!!!!!

I seriously cant believe I am going to be 7 months next week! There is still so much to do!Here is the most recent picture of the ever growing bump....

Gender: Girl

Weight Gained: Approx 12 lbs but have a feeling after this week may be more ;)

Stretchmarks:Not yet (fingers crossed)

Belly Button: Out and has been that way for months! Also think that little weird black line is going to be showing up here pretty soon.

Workouts: Non exsisent for the past two weeks :( Between the move, holidays and me being really sick ALL last week my husband forbids me to work out. Hope to squeeze in a bit this week.

How you're feeling: Honestly I felt pretty fab up until about 6.5 months. Now that my tummy is constantly expanding I have my good days and my bad days. Some days I feel great and other I feel blah. Its been quite the adjustment with all the body changes but all in all super thankful and happy as long as Baby A is healthy!

Sleep: Pretty good so far minus random wake up kicks(which are kind of cute anyway) and bladder calls.

Side effects: So far during my pregnancy Ive only had a few notable side effects. Little bits of nausea here and there (which im thankful for compared to what other women endure) Having a horrible metal taste in my mouth during my first 12 weeks. Now that baby A is getting bigger her frequent movements are becoming a bit more uncomfortable.For some reason my eyelashes are almost non exsistent (really missing them) but my hair is much fuller and longer now. I am also have a heck of a time bending over now haha. Reaching for something or trying to put my shoes on is quite the task! Also needing a bigger bra but definitely not complaining about that! So for the most part I feel like I have been really lucky so far.

While cruising the freezer aisle at Whole Foods last week I stumbled upon Stonyfields Organic Chocolate Nonfat Greek Frozen Yogurt! With only 200 calories in the entire pint plus 12 grams of protein and probiotics, this healthy sweet alternative is a must! Its no Ben n Jerrys but its pretty darn tasty and I highly recommend trying it!

Makeup Forever Gold Metal Powder

With the holidays here I was on the hunt for a fun gold pigment. I found the perfect one by Makeup Forever only to go home, put it on and realize it wasn't as dramatic as I had hoped...

All in all it was still a good purchase because its definitely a great daytime look Ill actually get more wear out of! I can always spice it up by tapping a little gold glitter on top or using my NYX gold glitter liner with it as well.

Coming Home

As many of you know the hubby and I packed up and moved to Miami about 6 months ago to try to make it our new home. After much debate, lots of things to consider and a little one on the way to think about... we've weighed all the options and CA seems to be like the best fit for us. That being said were BEYOND excited to be heading back in a couple weeks!

Its definitely a bit of a bummer that it didn't pan out the way we thought. In the end we still benefited from the move and tried something we've been talking about for years... so not all was lost. We only have a couple weeks left here and its been madness trying to sell furniture, arrange this move and pack up again! Moving 3 months before my due date should be entertaining to say the least so wish us luck haha!

It was a tough call between this Proenza Schouler PS1 and the YSL East West bag. Ultimately I just felt like this bag was more "me" and something I could wear everyday. The belly band has been a great purchase for me so far! I havent been able to button my pants for almost two months! This inexpensive band helps keep them up and lets you continue to wear your normal jeans.
As for face wash i've been using good old fashioned Cetaphil (my dermatologist recommended it to me when I first found out I was pregnant) Its basic and safe! I also finally jumped on the MIA by clarasonic bandwagon! I LOVE this brush and have to say my skin feels super soft after I use it. When I get random break outs that wont go away, I put a little dab of Cortaid on it. It contains hydrocortisone which will dry that baby out. Also hear great things about Mario Badescu products (particularly the drying lotion)
Around 22 weeks I started having a bit of back pain and not sleeping as great. I saw this wedge pillow and am wondering if it will help? As for stretch marks I hear it's mostly genetics but Im lathering up daily with creams anyway! I have been using Palmers coco butter (super cheap from Target) and its good! I've also heard great things about Mustela products and Bio Oil. I may be giving those a try when I run out of Palmers!

If you follow the Honeybee on FB you know I had my LOVELY glucose test this morning. My doctor gave me the Glucola drink on my last visit to take home. I drank it an hour before my appointment and when I showed up we went right in and they took blood. It honestly wasn't bad at all! The orange drink was actually pretty tasty! (very sugary obviously).

On a side note I have to say shopping for my baby girl has been so fun! Were going to really start tackling the "to get list" next month and I cant wait to get everything organized! I would LOVE to hear what things you girls registered for or products that you liked!!

24 Weeks

I shared a pic a couple days ago on the Honeybee Facebook page that im officially 6 months! This tummy has seriously sprouted over the past two weeks and is taking off! Its so exciting that people can actually tell im pregnant now!

I have the dreaded Glucose test next week but for some reason I don't see what all the fuss is about. Is it really that bad? Thought it was just like drinking flat orange soda?

Miraculous Bra Look for Less!

Months ago I posted on my little Victoria's Secret Miraculous bra which instantly adds two cup sizes! In my opinion even at $50 a bra they were worth every penny! Now (thanks to a fellow blogger who mentioned it on my post) I've found a dupe at Target for $17!! I purchased two of them and they are practically identical to the one at VIctoria's Secrets!!!

22 Weeks

Hope you girls had a beautiful Thanksgiving! I meant to post this before I left on vacation but you know how hectic it can be to get everything organized before you travel. Im actually going to be 23 weeks tomorrow but thought I would post this anyhow...

Gender: Baby Girl
Cravings: I haven't really had to many cravings, im just loving acidic stuff still. If anything I have been having a "lack" of cravings. Nothing really sounds good to me lately.
Sleep: Still pretty good (of course still have bladder calls in the middle of the night) and turning over in my sleep seems to take a bit more effort now ;)
Body Changes: Bully Button is out! No stretch marks yet (knock on wood). My lower back has started hurting a bit. Also I swear I am losing my eyelashes, I did some research and apparently that can happen during pregnancy!!
Weight Gain: about 9 to 10 pounds
Work Outs: still cardio twice a week and strength training twice a week
Things missed: all my facial products I cant use anymore because of the ingredients that aren't safe for babies.
Maternity Clothes: Still not wearing maternity clothes but feel like I just may have to give in a purchase a pair of maternity jeans! Im still wearing the belly band to keep my regular jeans up in the mean time.
New Experiences: Kicks are becoming so much stronger and now I can actually see my stomach move when she kicks!
Look Forward to: Spending the holidays with my in laws!

Honeybee Health: Holiday Eating Survival Tips

Alright ladies its that time of year again when our discipline is tested! Per reader request here are some tips for surviving the holiday calorie overload! By All means definitely indulge but remember balance! Thanksgiving is just one day....not an entire week! (Im going to try to take my own advice on that this week)

*Plan Ahead
One of the most effective ways to maintain/lose body weight is to regularly exercise.To burn off those extra calories, kick up your routine. If you normally do 30 minutes a day, increase it to 45 minutes. If you exercise three times a week, move it up to four or five times a week.

*Stick to SMALL plates
a small portion of some appetizers may help you from overeating at dinner.
Use a small plate, and load up on veggies! Try to limit the creamy dips. Steer clear of crackers, chips, cheese and meats. If you must have a deep-fried appetizer, try to eat only one small serving.

*Avoid going back for seconds.

*Skip the sauces
Avoid sauces made from cream, half-and-half or meat drippings. For salads, use oil and vinegar, vinaigrette or low-fat dressings. Broth -based or vegetable sauces are fine.

*The best low-calorie dessert choices are fruit, Jell-O, pudding, chocolate covered strawberries, shortbread cookies, ginger snaps or angel food cake. If you really feel for the RICH stuff with frosting, cream cheese, or chocolate chips, limit yourself to one small portion. (and be honest about your small portion size)

*NEVER show up hungry
Have something small to avoid overeating! (apple, baby
carrots, or greek yogurt as my go to snacks).

*Watch the cocktails!
Try to limit your alcohol to one or two servings. The type of alcohol you choose makes a difference as well...
Instead of high-fat eggnog, have a light beer, wine or champagne.

* Lastly enjoy the holidays ladies!!
Don't beat yourself up if you do overindulge. Just remember each moment is an opportunity to get back on track!!!!

Egg nog = 350 Calories and 19 grams fat
Hot chocolate = 120 Calories and 4 gramsfat

Gin & Tonic =210 Calories and 22 grams of sugar
Champagne=100 Calories and 5 grams of sugar

12 Shrimp cocktail=165 calories and only 1 gram of fat!
Crab cake=290 calories and 19 grams of fat!

Pecan pie= 610 calories and 45 grams fat!!
Pumpkin pie= around 270 Calories and 10 grams of fat

Mashed potatoes=220 calories 12 grams of fat
Herb roasted potatoes=120 calories and 5 grams of fat

Easy & Healthy Pumpkin Spice Chocolate Chip Muffins

This weekend I made and DOMINATED some pumpkin chocolate chip muffins! They were so tasty I thought I would share them with you ladies!

They were somewhat healthy too! Just take a box of Spice cake mix (any brand) and replace the oil and eggs for one small can of pumpkin puree! That cuts out the fat! Bake according to box and add chocolate chips as soon as you take them out of the oven...amazing!

I've been dying to try Tom Fords new lipsticks but can not bring myself to spend $50 on one tube! In an attempt to satisfy my craving for Black Orchid (Tom Ford) lipstick I snagged Black Cherry by Revlon for around $7!

I love a dark berry lip for Fall and have to say I am pleased with the results (esp at a drugstore price point). It did appear a bit darker in person than these pictures show.

I kept the rest of the look simple with some serious winged eyeliner (My favorite)

Laura Mercier silk creme foundation, Mac MSF in cheeky , Mac moisture cover concealer in NW20, Mac nude liner in my water line, Mac brulee on lid and wedge in the crease, Nars albatross for highlight, Bobbi Brown gel liner, Revlon perfect peach blush, MUFE Smokey lash mascara and of course Revlon Black Cherry lipstick lined with Mac Bordeauxline lipliner.

I've been receiving a lot of requests lately for meal posts so here is a look at mine from this past week....

Skirt Steak and mixed green salad (If you're in South FL you have to check out WHISK in Coral Gables...it's one of my favorite restaurants here!)

Simple healthy dinner of grilled chicken with balsamic tomato basil topping, brown rice and healthy creamed spinach. Most creamed spinach are loaded with fat. See this one below I found at Publix (local grocery). It is made with all natural ingredients and is pretty healthy! Hubby loved it too!

I'm not sure if it is the pregnancy or Fall that has me craving everything pumpkin! I made pumpkin flax pancakes and they were delicious! I've posted a link on my Honeybee Facebook page to the recipe! (Found on Pinterest of course!)

Quick lunch of tuna (mixed with one tablespoon mayo made with olive oil) on mixed greens with a touch dressing.

Another quick and healthy dinner: Grilled garlic chicken sprinkled with fresh Parmesan, brown rice and black beans and a spinach souffle.

And yeahhhh for Honeycrisp apples that are finally back in season! They are my favorite apples!

Now with all that healthy food you have to have a balance right?! ;) While back home in VA last week I made two pumpkin pies and my mom made some homemade mulled cider!! So delicious! If you are going to have sweets this holiday season, know that pumpkin pie is one of the lower calorie/fat options! Don't beat yourself up if you indulge! Its the holidays of course xo

Also if you are in the Baltimore area you have to check out Michael Minas new restaurant Wit & Wisdom. Its located in the Four Seasons and since my bf and I are both pregnant we sampled plenty of TASTY desserts instead of our usual cocktails.

Leopard Love

There's something about leopard print that adds instant sexiness to any outfit! I steer more towards leopard print accessories because in large quantities it can be a little overwhelming for me. I really have my eye on the House of Harlow leopard box clutch I posted on yesterday!

I had been drooling over these Miu Miu's for forever and finally purchased them!

I've also been living in this leopard print scarf from Urban Outfitters lately! It reminds me of the YSL one but was only $30!

Also wore it for a night out in Baltimore last week. This is one of my best friends who is also prego!!

20 Weeks

Today I am officially 20 weeks pregnant and can't believe I am half way there!! It is going by so quickly! I love seeing my tummy grow each week and feeling the movements from little baby A become stronger and stronger!

Gender: Girl (Baby "A")
Cravings: Luckily still just fruits esp lemon and acidic stuff (which I NEVER ate before)
Sleep: Good (besides the middle off the night bladder call)
Body Changes: Bully Button is practically out! No stretch marks yet (knock on wood)
Weight Gain: about 7 pounds
Work Outs: cardio twice a week and strength training twice a week
Things missed: WINE and sushi
Maternity Clothes: Not yet but can not zip or button my jeans (I wear a belly band or use a hair tie to keep them up)
New Experiences: Feeling baby A hiccup was so stinking cute!
Look Forward to: heading to VA this week and hoping my mom can feel little "A" kick and move!

LOOOVE these all natural peanut butter granola thins! They are sooo tasty only 90 calories (and they are pretty small) so I have them when im craving a little something sweet. Beware if you are a PB addict you may not be able to stop after one!

Breakfast: Cinnamon raisin ezekiel bread french toast ( soaked in egg whites and topped with flax seed and agave) I usually would have a banana too but todays grocery day so made do.

My go to sweet craving frozen yogurt. Even though its not all natural that doesnt stop me from indulging. Mc Donalds & Burger King have "plain" sundaes that are under 150 calories. Also obsessed with Wendys frostys too! Stick to the small size and its only about 200 calories!

Afternoon snack: 1 egg plus three egg whites and a side of organic spinach

This little pb baby has been calling my name for months! Every time I am in line at Starbucks i just stare at this little cupcake. I finally tried it the other day. It was pretty good but don't think Ill be tempted to get it again. Also a decaf latte (as you are supposed to cut back on caffeine or cut it out entirely when pregnant) I still have some from time to time but nothing like I used to.

Out to lunch and kept it healthy: Chicken breast, black beans , salad and a side of avacado. Eating healthy can still be tasty!!

A Baby GIRL!

As previously mentioned on the Honeybee Facebook page we found out were having a baby girl!!! Its so strange because all my life I had just pictured my self with all boys. My husband and I already had our boys named picked out (since before pregnancy) but I just had this feeling about a month ago that it was a girl. Did any of you moms have that feeling like you knew what sex your baby was? We always said that as long as the baby was healthy we don't care what we have (although I was still secretively rooting for a boy ;). My sister in law said it best before we went in for our ultrasound. She said "No matter what sex it is, it will be what you've always wanted". It was so sweet and I think she was totally right! My husband is glowing and can't wait for her to be a daddy's girl! She has no idea how easy it will be to get her way with him! So now we are preparing for our little baby A. (Still keeping the name hush hush as you know family always tries to put in their expert opinion haha) With this news now I get to start planning!! Here are some nurserys that I feel in love with on Pinterest...

Im not a big pink person so these nurserys are right up my alley. Although I think I will add a bit more color.

I just LOVE the chandeliers in both these nursery's!

Living in Miami has been a bit of an adjustment and we are still uncertain if this is a permanent change for us. Unfortunately we signed this lease for our loft before we found out we were pregnant. There is no room to make a nursery so I have been having a bit of a rough time with that as I feel like it helps with the whole "nesting" process. Our lease is up a few months after baby A is born so I guess the nursery will just have to wait till then. xo

Almost Halloween

Yeah its almost Halloween! Its my favorite holiday and I just love everything about it! Unfortunately this year we aren't dressing up but that didn't stop me from putting Louie in costume! Some of you may have seen this already on The Honeybee Facebook page but was to cute to not post here too....

Louie the Lion! She actually has two costumes this year (haha Poor thing). She probably cant wait for me to have baby bean so Ill be dressing the baby instead!

Baby Bean Update

Sorry for lagging on the baby bump update but I finally feel like this tummy is really taking off! In the last two weeks I have noticed a big difference! Pregnancy so far has been good. No real morning sickness and as long as baby is healthy thats all i'm concerned about! Funny how you always hear people say that and then when it happens to you it really becomes your only concern. I've gained about 6 pounds so far and only cravings have been for acidic stuff like lemon, grapefruit and ginger. I started feeling kicks a couple weeks ago and have it to say it THE MOST amazing experience I have ever had in my life! It all just becomes so surreal and I feel instantly connected to this little bean growing inside!

18 Weeks

17 weeks (and belly button has been on the way out since week 10! WTH thought that didnt happen till the end haha)

15 Weeks

(And my pre pregnancy abs for motivation after baby bean arrives ;)

A lot of you have asked about my eating and working out since I've been pregnant. The working out has been cut back quite a bit. I do cardio twice a week (at a much less intensity) and strength training once a week. I find myself much more tired and getting getting winded quickly. I also did not like my first gym here so I signed up at another and am hoping that will help with the motivation.
As for eating I definitely have not been in the "feeding for two" mentality and think thats a huge misconception. I am lucky to not have crazy sweets cravings. I have indulged a few times but still stay on track with my normal healthy eating and have added a couple hundred extra calories a day. Even more so now than before I am trying to make sure to buy only organic foods. When you have a growing baby inside you it definitely make you rethink what you put in your body!

Face Tinted Moisturizers by Laura Mercier

Kiehls tinted moisturizer is a great inexpensive moisturizer I use daily with SPF. Laura Mercier also has an amazing tinted moisturizer that I use when I want a little more coverage but not to heavy. For drugstore foundation I am using Loreal true match as I find it is the closest color match for my skin. Illamasqua blush in "lover" is worth every penny. The color pay off is so gorgeous. Ardell "wispies" are my go to lashes. For brows I've been using benefits brow kit for almost two years and find it is super easy to use (although I use my own angled brush not the little one it comes with). I love Lorac bronzer! A little goes a long way so I know it will definitely last me a long time. Nars highlight powder in Albatross is perfect when I want that extra glow. Its subtle and not to over the top.

My Mac died on me and will be being repaired until next week so sorry for the lack of posts (my hubby has an iPad but I still haven't got used to it yet!) here are some shots from this week....

a Pumpkin Spice latte...because it is Fall! But ladies lets talk about this famous drink. In a Grande there are 380 calories,13 grams of fat and almost 50 grams of sugar in this bad boy! You might as well have a cupcake! If this is your Fall addiction by all means indulge but just know what your drinking! You can still enjoy it and save yourself 120 calories by opting for non fat milk and no whip. I promise it still tastes good!

Afternoon snack...Kashi waffle, a tablespoon of almond butter, half a banana, ground flax seed, topped with a little agave and a glass of skim milk.

Portion sizes are key! My plate on the left, the hubbys on the right! We unfortunately don't burn as many calories as men therefore we shouldn't eat the same amount as our man.

Getting my juice fix...this time with spinach, cucumber and apple

A snapshot of my grocery cart...nitrate free bacon, organic oatmeal, multigrain pasta, natural popcorn, high fiber cereal,egg whites, coconut water, part skim cheese, greek yogurt and some whole wheat fig cookies to satisfy that sweets craving. Before you check out take a look in cart and see what you can do without. If you take it home.....you will eat it! Make sure what you are purchasing is good for you!

Healthy breakfast option...Greek yogurt, fresh strawberries, handful of raw almonds, ground flax seed and a touch of granola

I still can't believe its already been that long! Some of you who have been following the Honeybee for a couple years may have seen some of these pics so Im putting a few new ones in there!

Heading to the church and a bit nervous to say the least!

I wanted to keep my hair and makeup very clean and simple.

This is by far my favorite picture from our wedding! The look on his face seeing me coming down the aisle was the sweetest thing I've seen! I don't think I have ever been loved so much. We both started crying ;)

My brother spilled an entire glass of champagne on my MOH as she was going up to give her speech!! She still gave the best speech and I hope one day mine will be just as great for hers! xoxo

We had towers of Sprinkles cupcakes for our wedding cake.

In the beginning I wanted to invite anyone and everyone I knew to our wedding! After long discussions with the hubby (and have to say he was right) we opted for around 80 guests. Only the closest of friends and family and I couldn't have asked for anything better!!

And what wedding isnt complete without having your whole bridal party jump in the pool at the St. Regis in their wedding attire?!!!

Honeybee Health: Random Shots

I'm not a big believer in "replacing" your meals with a juice but I do love a fresh juice! I try to have half of it one day and save the other half for the next day. Im obsessed with this lemon/grapefruit/double shot of ginger drink from a local juicer here in Miami!

Love these thin biscotti like cookies from Whole Foods! I reach for these first whenever im craving sweets. You can have 5 for around 100 calories.

If those biscotti thins dont cut it....Gelato always seems to do the trick. Actually Gelato has been quite a staple in my diet here.They say gelato is made with more milk than heavy cream so technically it has less fat than ice cream. I still think it tastes way to good to be good for you ;) So I keep my portions to the smallest size.

I dont know if it is the pregnancy or the humidity but I am an animal around watermelon haha! I cant tell you how much of it i've been eating lately!

My husband was having "his pregnancy cravings" for some wings so we went to Buffalo Wild Wings. Going to these type of spots is always a challenge for me because you really have to search fort healthy options. I ended up getting the grilled chicken tacos (told them to hold the cheese and sauce) and only had a handful of the chips.

Yeah for Cheesecake Factory! They have finally jumped on the health bandwagon and produced a "skinnylicious menu" Everything on it is under 500 calories!

Being 3 1/2 months pregnant is kind of the "in between" stage as far as dressing. I don't have a very distinct tummy yet. It just looks like I have a beer belly. Lately I have been wearing more flowy tops until my tummy is a little more prominent. In the mornings my pants fit fine. By the end of the day I look much bigger and definitely have to unbutton! Here is a look I wore yesterday....

If you follow the Honeybee on Facebook you already know but I want to share with you ladies that we are having a baby!!!!!!! I wanted to wait to share the news till I was out of my first trimester and we are so excited and a bit nervous! ;) Stephen accepted the job in Miami and about a week before we moved here we found out I was pregnant! It was a lot to take on at once but we couldn't be more thrilled! Im so excited to share this new experience with you girls!

Baby Bean 13 weeks!

I haven't had any real morning sickness (just a little nausea from time to time) but I have had a horrible metal taste in my mouth but I guess that should be subsiding now that Im in my second trimester. Yeah!!! I feel like I started showing a bit early too (around 10 weeks) I definitely have a little bump going on now.

Mommies out there please feel free to lay on any advice and any words of wisdom!

Date Night

There are a billion and one restaurants in South Beach that I want to try! Every weekend we try to tackle one of them! On Friday night we went to Casa Tua.

I am obsessed with all the garden patios Miami has to offer and Casa Tua's did not disappoint! It is very intimate and not a scene. Perfect place for a romantic date night!

This was the BEST grilled octopus appetizer I've ever had!

I had the Lamb Ragu Pappardelle. Not super healthy but I was craving some pasta. (it was good but would probably order something else next time)

Ive posted on Cecconis before but if you ladies are in Miami you have to have dinner or drinks here! Its located in the Soho Beach House and the decor is one of the prettiest in South Beach! I love this place!

I cant believe we have already been living in Miami for a month! We are still settling in but wanted to share some random shots I've taken over the past few weeks. We did move here during hurricane season (not the best idea haha) and there has been quite a bit of rain but when its sunny here its gorgeous!

A gorgeous day at the beach with the famous brightly painted life guard towers (you can find them between 10th and 15th street)

We are currently renting in Miami for this year to make sure it is a good fit for us before getting a house but cant complain about our view!

Honeybee Health: Random Shots

Here are some random shots from last week....

Loving these all natural chocolate biscotti's! They are around 100 calories and go perfect with my lattes or when I'm craving a little something sweet at night. (purchased at a local grocery PUBLIX here in Miami. Im sure you can find them in most grocery stores in the cookie aisle)

My turkey bacon is ALWAYS nitrate free

I cant remember if I've posted on these Garden Lites yet but I LOVE them! These are super convenient if you don't feel like steaming or roasting your veggies or your just making dinner for one! I purchased them at Whole Foods. (FYI be sure not to over cook if you decide to make them in the microwave)

My airplane snack raw almonds and a banana. It was only a two hour flight this time (YEAH for living on the east coast) so this little snack held me over!

Now I will admit i got a little off track while going to home over labor day weekend. In my defense I had to indulge because we don't have a Cracker Barrel or Friendly's on the west coast or in Miami! Had to have my biscuits and gravy and fried apples!!

Also had to get down on this peanut butter cup sundae with extra peanut butter sauce on the side ;)

Steve Madden can be hit or miss with me but lately I've been finding some great shoes there! I snagged these Platforms last week and love them. They are super comfy and love the gladiator style platform. (Although my husband is not a fan of them, funny how that always works out...you love it and your man hates it ;)

Honeybee Beauty: FOTD Soft Smokey Eye

For those of you who don't know FOTD means "face of the day" (I cant tell you how long it took me to figure that out on other blogs!) Anyhow its been awhile since I've done a makeup post. Living in Miami has been great on my skin! You really don't need to wear a lot of makeup because most people here keep it pretty natural due to the humidity! I pretty much just throw on a tinted moisturizer, concealer and mascara! I do loooove makeup though so it was nice to get all dolled up. Here is a soft smokey eye I wore this week......

Smokey eyes don't always have to be harsh and dark. You can still achieve the same effect with warmer, softer colors.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation, Clea De Peau concealer, Lorac bronzer, Mac Groundwork paint pot (as a base on the lid), Mac Tempting eye shadow all over lid, Mac Carbon outer V and crease, NYX pigment in pearl for highlight, Mac liquid liner, Mac Freckle tone lipstick and NYX gloss and Ardell lashes)

Lastly I tapped Mac pigment Reflects Antique Gold on top of my lid. I LOVE this stuff! Pigments are pricey but they really do make a huge difference!

If you haven't tried the Miraculous bra from Victoria's Secret you need to get down to the store today and do so! This baby is life changing! (Ok maybe not life changing but it will give your girls 2 added cup sizes!!)

Honeybee Health: Random Shots

The one most important tip I can give you about staying in shape would be CONSISTENCY!! Even in the midst of packing and moving I try hard to keep my eating on track. I prefer to eat really well 80% off the time and then DOMINATE ;) that 20% when I decide to splurge. Here are some random shots from this past week during our move.......

My favorite burger from Zinc Cafe (in corona del mar CA) its made with veggies, brown rice, barley etc. and topped with avocado. Its super filling so I skip the bun and also have the herbed cottage cheese salad....so good!

I rarely eat pizza (i've mentioned before that I tend to save my calories for wine and sweets) but when I do I really love Kashi's Mediterranean pizza. Its packed with protein and fiber. So to me its a better option and it tastes great!!

I could easily eat the whole pizza, so when I do indulge I always make a big salad with whatever veggies I have in the fridge. It helps fill you up before you inhale the whole pizza. (I'm obsessed with ginger dressing lately and that's what is on the salad)

FAVORITE thing on the Starbucks menu...the Egg white spinach wrap! I could eat this everyday of the week! Its actually the lowest calorie breakfast sandwich they have on the menu and under 300 calories! You should really look up the nutrition facts to see how many calories some of your favorite Starbucks goodies are packing! Some of there muffins have just as many grams of sugar as a cupcake!

My comfort food! Something about Peanut butter, banana and milk combo that always makes me feel good ;) I used an Ezekiel English muffin, PB2 peanut butter, sliced bananas and a touch of agave nectar = HEAVEN

We Stopped into Whole Foods for lunch here in Miami while out furniture shopping and this is what I had. Mixed greens and veggies, Two hard boiled eggs (only ate one yolk) Grilled chicken and small side of hummus. I also got a broth based soup but was to full to it eat to saved it for later.

Eating healthy can definitely be a bit of work but if you take the time and read nutrition labels it will get easier! There are so many little changes you can make daily that will improve your health, you just have to make a little bit of effort! xo

Hi ladies!! It feels so good to finally have internet and be blogging again ;) I've miss you guys and catching up on all my daily reads! Things have been hectic here to say the least! We are finally in our new place (after hating the first one and having to get another). We literally came to Miami with 10 bags of luggage,our cars and Louie! We've been out everyday looking for furniture and all the odds and ends you don't realize you need until you have to start from scratch!

Since I was feeling a little homesick I decided to splurge on these Louboutin Bibi platforms I have been eyeing for months! They definitely brightened my day ;)

Orange County

It's been beyond a crazy week here! We are finally all packed up and moved out of our orange county home. We've been so busy that I don't think it's even sunk in yet that were actually leaving!!! Were hoping for the best and look forward to this new chapter in our lives! After living in OC for 12+ years I thought I would share some of my favorite places and things I will miss......

I will really miss our beautiful backyard! Drinking vino by our fireplace and BBQ'ing! Honeybee is actually our street name ;) and that's where The Honeybee name came from.

The gorgeous Montage Resort in Laguna Beach. Such a beautiful place to grab drinks and take people visiting from out of town if they want that WOW factor. The views are breathtaking and the spa is the most amazing spa I've ever been too.

Panini Cafe! They have the best hummus I've ever had!! Super affordable mediterrean food and everything on the menu is delish!!

I've raved about the Roof Top bar in Laguna in the past and this place will definitely be missed!! Perfect spot to see stunning sunsets and grab cocktails with friends. I always bring our out of town guests here!

The Side Door restaurant in CDM is such an OC gem! Not your typical orange county crowd (which is refreshing) great beer and wine tasting and the menu is beyond tasty!(note to self it's not super healthy so plan on a "cheat night" when you go!)

Habana so many memories at this romantic restaurant in Costa Mesa! Where the hubby and I had our first date!!! Xo

The STUNNING views and random dolphin sightings while cruising down PCH!

Last but not least Strands beach in Dana Point! It's such a beautiful and clean beach thats not super crowded! So many great beach day memories here with the girls!
Thanks for all the memories OC! Next stop Miami........

Bouncy Waves

Ive been getting a lot of requests lately on how I style my hair. The truth is I hate washing and and styling my hair! I have found a super quick and easy way to tame my wavy hair and that gives it a little volume.

I go old school with my Con Air hot rollers! I just throw these babies on wait about 10 minutes for them to completely cool. Then I take them out and spray with a light weight hairspray and thats it!! I like mine more wavy and natural looking but if you want yours to stay tight I suggest misting hair with hairspray before you roll it around the roller. This will make it hold much better.

I use the larger roller set but I also have this smaller set that I take with me whenever I travel. Again makes doing my hair so easy!** Also I highly recommend purchasing some of this claw hair clips from a beauty supply store vs the little metal pins the set comes wilth. The metal pins always seem to leave a crease.

***Ive also had some emails about recommendations on my hair stylist. If you are in OC and looking for a new one, I HIGHLY recommend my girl Samantha at Studio 4 in Newport Beach. I have been going to her for years and she gives the best cuts and blow outs!!! Studio 4 is located across the street from Fashion Island. I think she also said she just started working at the Dry Bar newport beach on Sundays. So definitely check her out. So sad I wont have her to do my hair anymore (since well be in Miami)

Random Shots LA

Last weekend we went to LA to meet up with friends and take in the city one more time before we head east! Here are some random shots.....

Craving Cupcakes!! The line was around the corner for Sprinkles so we headed down the street to Crumbs. My husband actually likes Crumbs better and i'm still undecided (its a very close call).

Had to squeeze in some shopping on Robertson blvd. Intermix, All Saints and Kitson were on the list. (wearing Blu Moon dress, Dita Condor aviators and Alexander Wang bag)

I LOVE Newsroom Cafe on Robertson. They have the best juices,coffees and tea and the menu is fantastic!! I was trying to be good so I had eggs whites and chicken sausage.(I know not very exciting haha) My husband had the tandori chicken with coconut milk.....AMAZING!!

We stayed at the beautiful Mondrian Hotel on the the Sunset Strip. I hadnt been here in years and forgot how amazing this Hollywood landmark is!

The Skybar is an ABSOLUTE must. It is so stunning at night!!

Loved the bathroom decor in our room.

This week I tried out the half turban trend. While I ADORE this look on many girls it was just one of those looks that I felt "wasn't me". Even though my girlfriend loved it, I feel like you have to be comfortable in what you wear. So how about you ladies are you in the turban or half turban trend?!

Honeybee Health Questions & Answers

I get a lot of emails about Honeybee Health regarding diet, exercise etc. and thought I would use this post to answer some of these questions.....

Question: I was hoping you could do a post sometime about how you really started to eat healthy. My family is really big on eating lots of meat and carbs and I would like to start eating cleaner and generally healthier. Do you have any suggestions of a place to start?

Answer: Great question. I started eating healthy when I moved to California in High School. I just became really interested in researching all the nutrition info in things we were eating. There's a big misconception that you shouldn't eat meat and carbs. The key is choosing the right ones! I LOVE red meat! When selecting meats you always want to look for the leanest cuts. Bison (Buffalo), Filet Mignon and Flank are all very lean. Bison contains less fat and calories than a piece of grilled chicken breast!! So anytime I see a bison burger, steak or tenderloin I am ALL over it!!! When choosing ground beef I ALWAYS choose 95% lean!
As for carbs you guys know the drill. You want to have something with nutritional value and that will be filling. Whole wheat bread, rice and pasta are all good options. Quinoa is a great source of nutrients and protein as well. A sweet potato over a regular potato because the sweet potato is nutrient packed and lower on the glycemic index. Just making these simple substitutions will make a drastic impact!

Question: How many times a day do you workout?? Do you ever "diet" and if so which one?!

Answer: I only work out once in a day. Rarely have I ever done two workouts in one day. As for "dieting" I think I tried them all back in high school. Sugar Free, Fat Free, and Carb Free (and I was never even overweight so not sure why I did). I cant stress enough how much those diets backfire on you! You need carbs for energy. The key is just choosing the right carbs and practicing moderation in every aspect of your eating. Sugar Free was probably the worst one I ever tried. Sugar Free products contain malitol which can have "laxative like" side effects and also cause bloating. I never felt good or satisfied eating sugar free products. Over the passed 5 years Ive really come to a great place with my eating. No more diets it really is just a lifestyle. My theory is that if you eat good 80% of the time then you can indulge and enjoy that other 20% thats not so good for you.

Question: Hi Andee, love your blog, I was wondering if on your next Honeybee Health Post you can share what a typical workout looks like for you. I can't believe you only work out 3 days a week that's amazing! Is there a particular reason why you cut back on your work outs?

Answer: I used to work out 5 to 6 days a week. I now have been working out 3 (sometimes 4) days a week for the passed year and I have not notice one difference in the way I look. So why workout that extra day if I look the same?! (Again I think it does have a lot to do with the fact that I eat very clean 80% of the time).
Hope this isnt "TMI" but last year I went off birth control and its took me over 7 months to get my period. My husband wanted me to work out less (because I was also training for the San Fran 1/2 marathon) and give my body a break. Low and behold a couple months later I got my period (FINALLY!!) Im not sure if it was a coincidence or because I gave my body a break but it let me see that I didnt have to stress about being in the gym 5 days a week!

Question: I love your blog, and I have a few questions... what type of routine do you have, daily? I am looking to eat better and get a little more trim...I'm pretty thin but just feeling a little ... chubby in the hips/midsection! Any suggestions would be helpful, thank you!

Answer: As far as working out I do Cardio 3 to 4 times a week for about 45 minutes. I also do strength training 2 to 3 times a week for about 25 minutes (lunges, squats, weights etc..) When i'm in the gym I PUSH myself. I want to be exhausted and dripping wet when I leave there. I do a "Shred n Tred" class at my gym which is awesome. Its a group running class on the tredmills with an instructor who tells you what incline to take it to and what speeds. Its constantly changing and keeps your body guessing which is awesome! I also take spin once a week and use the elliptical machine and stairclimber.
If you are already fairly thin and want to tone up I would just practice more strength training. I would look into a pilates class or something that focuses on strengthening your core. (again im not a certified fitness instructor but this is my opinion)

Question: What are your guidelines for eating? Do you only eat Oragnic food? and do you have any tips to share about eating out???

Answer: We are faced with hundreds of food decisions a day. Do I eat the homemade cookies that my co worker brought in? Do I have another margarita? Should I have that burger and fries? Im a BIG believer in listening to your body. If you are craving pizza have the pizza! If you want a Sprinkles cupcake...get down on that cupcake ;) and dont beat yourself up about it (I still struggle to take my advice on that one) I think if you are eating really well 80% of the time (and be HONEST with yourself about if you are truly eating well) then enjoy that 20 % when you do splurge!
I eat very clean. Tons of veggies, grilled leans meats and whole grains. Pretty much you can always find this incorporated in all my meals. I use cheese sparingly and try to have my sugar in the form of dark chocolate and fruit. (Notice I said TRY ;) I dont eat fried food. My guilty pleasures are wine and sweets so Id rather save my calories for those!
I eat MOSTLY organic because I really noticed a difference with how my body felt after eating non processed foods. I do have some things in my pantry that aren't 100% organic but the majority are. Eating out is something you have to master. I always feel sorry for my waitress because I am that person that person who says "buffalo burger with the whole wheat bun, dry (because they slather on the butter and grill it) no cheese or mayo and salad with dressing on the side instead of fries. Yes its embarrassing and I always do it in the nicest way but im sure they want to spit in my food haha. Portion Sizes and deciphering the words on the menu are key to eating out. I will definitely do a post on this because there is so much to it! Before you go to dinner look at the menu online. If it is a chain restaurant you can even get the nutrition facts in each dish online.
